Carrot, Purple

A best seller, and our house favourite! Think of antioxidants whenever you see these, and purple produce. Carrots are high in beta carotene in general, and purple carrots have twice as much alpha-beta carotene (turns into Vitamin A, important for vision) as orange ones. 

Purple carrots add different flavours to your dish, and a colour flare! They're usually a little sweeter than the orange, but more earthy and a tad peppery (these make carrot ribbons truly special).

P.S. Be aware: they loose colour if overcooked, and the juice can stain your fingers.. be aware :) 

• Freshest  all year round.
• Great for snacks (raw), juicing, dip dippers, curries, slow-cooked meals and side dishes. The top is also edible. Our kids love the sweetness of baked 'burnt' carrots...simply turn on the oven and place them in until black char appears. 
• Store in fridge, the coolest part of the crisper for over a week. You may remove the carrot top and wrap the carrot in a damp paper towel.

Did you know? Drawings made more than 2000 years BC in the Egyptian temple show purple carrots. Purple carrots are the original colour, not orange. Carrots are part of the Apiaceae family, with celery and parsley.
