Pea, Sugar Snap
Eat me, all of me...pods'n'all! I'm a snow pea and garden pea, made to make all of me sweet and easy to eat!
- Freshest in March to late August.
- Good for stir fry, salads, main vegie dishes, stir fry and fried rice.
- Store in fridge up to one week (sugars convert to starch over time) in bag. Rinse just before consuming. Freeze for months after blanching (in hot water for one minute and then iced water for 3 minutes).
Sugar snap peas have less carb than green peas, but are sweeter than snow peas. They are an excellent source of fibre, with iron and vitamin C (although this reduces when cooked).
We look for bright green peas that are waxy to touch.
Top Tip
Remove tough strings before blanching (very briefly) and season, use with dips.
